Working Together

Supporting or local community

We work hard to achieve our business objectives and respond to the needs of our customers, our parent company – Western Power Distribution – and our other stakeholders. But we also take time to support our local community too. We’re proud sponsors of a small number of sports clubs and charities, each of which plays an important role providing amenities and support to local people of all ages.

Truro College

At the heart of Surf’s commitment to the local community is encouraging schools and colleges to participate in sports. Among its wide syllabus Truro College provides facilities for students to study a wide range of sports related subjects and to play as much sport as they like. Surf recently sponsored Truro College’s U18s rugby tournament with 22 teams taking part, with Truro College itself finishing in third place.

Redruth Rugby Football Club

Surf Telecoms have been regular sponsors of Redruth Rugby Football Club for a number of years. The club’s 1st XI team plays in National League One and runs teams for Colts, Juniors U13-U16, and Minis U7-U12. Plus they have an academy for children from the age of four to develop up through the ranks and become budding first team players.

Cricketing talent – Oli Higgs

Oli Higgs is a young and up-coming cricketer currently playing for the Devon U15’s team. Part of Devon Cricket Board’s Emerging Player Programme, all-rounder Oli is off to South Africa early next year to sharpen his batting and bowling skills prior to the domestic season.

Other worthwhile causes Surf Supports

Bibic / Clic / Make A Wish Foundation – Every year Surf chooses a charity to sponsor at Christmas time. We choose to do this instead of giving each other Christmas cards. This way the money is given to a good cause. Also we’re doing our bit to save the environment by sending a few less cards. Taunton Athletics Club – Sponsored the endurance squad in 2010 for new running kit Rhondda Paddlers – Sponsored the club in purchasing new boats for the club 2008 Exeter University Cricket Club EUMCC – Sponsored the team in 2008 with new shirts

At an individual level too our employees give up their own time to support good causes

At the St Margaret’s Hospice Night Strider event in 2009; three members of Surf Telecoms took part in a sponsored walk through the night in fancy dress. The aim was to raise funds for the Taunton-based hospice which provides a wide range of services for people with a terminal or life-limiting illness. In 2010 the hospice celebrated 30 years of caring for the people of Somerset.
